Along with my experience as a musician and teacher, I have found that everyone can learn and play percussion. For more than 20 years I´ve been working as percussion facilitator with people of all ages and musical backgrounds, from little kids to seniors, and I´ve verified that the ability to play percussion instruments is in our DNA, waiting to be stimulated and awakened.
Rhythm is our natural connection with music and percussion is the most immediate way to channel our musicality.

Unlike most people think, learning to play percussion involves an integral musical training similar to most musical instruments.
By learning to play a percussion instrument you will acquire numerous skills specifically related to music, to which are added other more general ones related to the development of your body and mental skills such as body management, memory, reflexes, coordination, among others.

Second, when you learn to play percussion you get use to play in a specific musical context named “Percussion Ensemble” in which you play along several players and different percussion instruments.

Last, improvisation is a key element in playing percussion. Inside of the percussion ensemble you are going to play different roles, sometimes you´ll be part of the rhythm base and others you ´ll be able to play a solo and in that way freely express your musicality.
In conclusion, all these abilities are going to be fundamental in your learning path in percussion and also are going to facilitate your learning path in any other musical instrument you choose to learn and play music.
